Every morning,
at the Garden Cafe
of The Mayflower Inn,
the Ganciang Birds
come a-chirping.
Dressed in shiny black feathers,
with a drunken red spot
right on its eye.
They come in pairs,
searching for breakfast,
in our pocket forest canopy.
We planted our garden
about three years ago,
from recycled plants, trees and shrubs.
Designed by the creative mind of Joel Lee,
our beloved Managing Director
and Permaculture Teacher and Designer.

Now it is lush
and has become a haven,
to our two legged, feathered and chirping friends.
Here they are welcomed,
protected and treasured.
A good omen
of urban environmental restoration.
A simple, easy step
that we can all do for our nation...
