in my grandma's home
in Magallanes, Sorsogon...
Meant lots of meals together,
Listening to her stories,
and eating all the yummy food
mostly cooked in coconut milk...
Traditionally,
coconut milk is made
by grating the coconut
with a manual grater,
then adding warm water,
then squeezing out the milk...
Today,
modern Bikolanos,
simply walk to the market,
buy a coconut
and have it pressed...
Here is a cool contraption
that I saw at the market...
the grated coconut is wrapped in a mesh |
the first pressing is pure coconut milk |
