The Bird Sanctuary at The Mayflower Inn, Capitol Site, Cebu, Philippines

 Every morning,
at the Garden Cafe
of The Mayflower Inn,
the Ganciang Birds
come a-chirping.

Dressed in shiny black feathers,
with a drunken red spot
right on its eye.

They come in pairs,
searching for breakfast,
in our pocket forest canopy.

We planted our garden
about three years ago,
from recycled plants, trees and shrubs.
Designed by the creative mind of Joel Lee,
our beloved Managing Director
and Permaculture Teacher and Designer.

Now it is lush
and has become a haven,
to our two legged, feathered and chirping friends.
Here they are welcomed,
protected and treasured.

A good omen
of urban environmental restoration.
A simple, easy step
that we can all do for our nation...

Beijing Bikes: People Movers

China
is known as a bike kingdom..
For many years,
bikes replaced the rickshaw
and became the primary
people mover...
Young and old,
racing through
China's modern dedicated bike lanes...
No helmets required,
few accidents with
fellow bike riders...

Bikes serve
many purposes

Here,
as a in-firmed carrier

Pedaling through
the hutongs of Beijing
is swift and speedy..

Or paced and steady...

You can help the pedaler too,
do it the way the Flinstones do...
