Customized Trikes for the differently abled commuter in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

differently abled commuter
After the end of the Vietnam War, the Vietnamese people were faced with a lot war injuries caused by land mines explosions and after effects of agent orange. Many of these war victims lost their ability to use their limbs, some totally lost their limbs while many have deformed limbs.

The wheel chair has been the traditional way of giving mobility to people who are differently abled. However, in Vietnam, they have crafted a personal mobility vehicle that is customized to the needs of the war victims and other differently abled people. I was impressed with the simple modifications made to the bicycle that drastically changed the ability of people without limbs to have independent mobility.

Christmas day Mass for the disabled at Saigon Notre Dame where I saw these customized trikes.

The trike rolls by moving the steering wheel forward and backward.

This trike has a handbrake attached to the steering wheel.

This trike has a rain and sun canopy and a carrier rack.

This trike has an extended hand brake.
