Drum Circle, Cebu

What is a drum circle? It is a group of people, usually sitting in a circle and playing drums or percussion instruments.   The goal of the drum circle is not to create a performance but instead to jive and jam with the other participants.  The number of participants can range from a few to hundreds to thousands.

We recently facilitated a drum circle with about 5o participants with ages ranging from 1 to 96. It was facilitated by Mikko Pablo, a cello student from Fullerton College, California. He facilitates drum circles during his visits to Cebu. If any of you are interested you can email him for his next visit and perhaps schedule a drum circle for your group. We have all the drums and percussion instruments. We use Remo drums and the rest are drums made by a local Cebuano drum maker named Joy.

  2. yup, this is in cebu, cool hah.

there are many places where you can buy a djembe- at jb music house sm (they carry a large selection of remo drums:we bought all our remo drums there), guitar house near manalili(they have a few djembes on the glass cabinets, you need to look through all the guitars coz you can miss it amidst all the bandurria, guitars and ukeleles), salonga music store at sm (they carry the indonesia made djembes) and there are also two drum makers that are in cebu- dominic asio at ananda marga center in mandaue ( he is on facebook) and jerome ( he has a stall in the hallway between dimsum break and the big chinese store in colon). just ask the other vendors there, he sells bags, clothes and other cooll stuff. there is no display of drums, you have to talk to jerome). tall guy with dread locks. he made most of our huge drums, djembe, ashokas and derbokas.
